Take the Kids into the Gardens

Not only can you enjoy the great floral surroundings but the children can enjoy a wealth of children’s activities that will keep the boredom at bay and give them space to run around.

Renishaw Hall

Not only a classical garden, at Renishaw Hall there is also a new Children’s Fairy Trail Gardens with trails for all ages: an art and literature trail following the famous people who have been connected with the Hall and the family, a tree trail, and a trail for the little ones with silhouettes of characters from children’s stories. There is also a maze, carvings in the trees, a story teller’s chair hewn out of a massive tree trunk knocked down in the Great Storm and a living willow tunnel. Visitors should collect leaflets for the trails from the kiosk and on their way out check if they answered the questions correctly.  Young and old can get lost for hours and have a magical time.

Granny Diane - our resident story teller and author will be holding storytelling sessions in the Children's Fairytale Garden. Come, sit and listen to tales among the trees.

Please check dates and times with the gardens on 01246 432310.

Wentworth Castle Gardens

Wentworth Castle Gardens has a great new adventure playground and children under 5 years of age can access the gardens free of charge.

Stainborough Castle is a favourite of all children visiting the gardens. It is a mock castle built on the highest point of the estate. It is thought that the castle was built for the 1st Earl of Strafford's children to use as a play area. The four towers were each named after the 1st Earl's children, Harriet, Anne, Lucy and William, and the insides were each painted a different colour.

Or just take a stroll around the parkland and enjoy the deer inthe fields.

New for 2009!
Collect a child's loyalty card from our admission desk and get it stamped every time you visit the gardens.  Once your child has got 4 stamps, they will get free garden entry on the fifth visit.  Not eligible for special events.

Wentworth Garden Centre

You will now find an Adventure Playground at Wentworth Garden Centre. Playdale, long standing experts in this field, have provided hours of fun for children young and old alike based around swings, slides, climbing frames etc all in a safe natural environment.

Whilst there visit the family farm.  An ever changing complex of rare and unusual breeds of domestic animals. Huge appeal for children and adults alike. Baby animals are always in evidence and always popular. Recent developments have resulted in the arrival of three pairs of red squirrels, hopefully to form part of a breeding programme. The hope is that this venture will lead to the acquisition of red foxes and otters in the near future. Please note that a small charge is made for entry to the farm.

Brodsworth Hall

The 15- acre gardens provide the perfect space for the kids to explore, with formal gardens, fountains and the pleasure grounds to discover plus plenty of hidey holes to find.
